Before your first recording

  • Obtain written consent - Ensure you have your client's written consent before recording any sessions (see here for asking consent)

  • Check your audio settings - Verify your computer's sound settings are properly configured with the correct input device selected

Starting a recording

  1. Click "Record" in the top right of your screen when ready to begin

  2. Review a summary of your previous session - If you've had previous sessions with this client on Tenor, we'll show you a session recap and suggested focus areas for the upcoming session to help with continuity

  3. Select your audio input device - Tenor automatically detects available inputs, but you can choose which one to use

  4. Set automatic end time (optional) - You can configure the recording to stop automatically after a certain duration

During the session

When recording begins, you'll see a digital notebook where you can take session notes. These notes are saved as your private notes for the session and complement the AI-generated summary.

Audio quality tips

For the best transcription quality and most detailed notes:

For virtual sessions

  • Do not use headphones - Like other browser recording services, Tenor currently doesn't support headphone use during recording

  • If you do use headphones - Only your voice will be recorded, not your client's. We can still generate notes from this, but the accuracy and detail will be significantly limited

  • Find a quiet environment - Minimize background noise for optimal audio quality

For in-person sessions

  • Position your device - Place your computer or phone between you and your client (while we do not yet have a phone app, you can use Tenor on mobile web)

  • Turn up input volume - Ensure your microphone input volume is set to the highest level in your "Sound" system settings for best results
