Tenor allows you to create progress notes in the exact format and tone you prefer by setting up a custom template.
To create the best version, you’ll need to do three things:
Upload a template (provides structure)
Upload a previous note (captures your voice and tone)
Add any additional instructions (customizes style and focus)
1. Upload a Template
This step sets the structure of your notes.
Your template should outline the main headers you want for each session (e.g., Client Presentation, Interventions, Plan). Add a brief description under each header so Tenor knows what type of content to include.
Example Template:
2. Upload a Previous Note
Sharing a sample of one of your past progress notes helps Tenor learn your style and tone of writing. For example, if you write concisely or prefer longer narrative sections, Tenor will mirror that.

3. Add Additional Instructions
Finally, include any free-form directions. The more specific you are, the better the output will match your needs. Examples:
“Use a CBT/DBT/ACT lens when describing the therapist's interventions.”
“Ensure language reflects medical necessity, e.g., tie back to symptoms and justify need for therapy.”
“Keep notes brief (less than 2-3 sentences per section) and exclude non treatment related details.”
